Workshop Re-fit
Early in 2019 I set about improving the layout of my garage and making it a bit more weatherproof and suitable for my new hobby. I have spent the last 20yrs dabbling, albeit rather infrequently, in woodturning but was limiting my time in the garage to summer months as the garage was so cold in the winter.
I lined the whole garage with a studded plywood wall, behind which I installed insulation and new wiring for a ring main. I also lined the ceiling with plywood and installed new downlights above the main areas of work. One above my floor standing pillar drill, one above the bandsaw and several above my lathe and work bench. Finally, I laid a new floor of interlocking foam panels.
A few years before I had already installed an electric roller door, but the side door was in a sorry state, so I measured up, ordered and installed a new PVC door.
Whilst perhaps not perfect, the final result is a workspace that is warmer during the winter months and more importantly far less damp. My tools are far happier in dryer conditions and now only need the occasional application of protective wax.
